Hood Warfare 2

Hood Warfare 2 is what happens when somebody watches the Chicago evening news and says, "You know what? This would make a great video game." And they were right. Trapstar Games dropped a $6 FPS on Steam where the Bloods and Crips shoot it out over Chicago turf, and the internet is having a full…

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)

When Square Enix announced in 2006 that the next mainline Dragon Quest would be a Nintendo DS exclusive, the gaming world raised an eyebrow. Moving from the PlayStation 2 — where Dragon Quest VIII had delivered one of the most visually stunning JRPGs of its generation — to a handheld with a…

Control Resonant: Remedy's Best-Looking Game and Its Most Divisive

Control Resonant: Remedy's Best-Looking Game and Its Most Divisive Remedy has been walking a tightrope for years now, and Control Resonant feels like the moment they either stick the landing or eat concrete. The original Control was one of the most refreshing third-person action games of its…

Marvel's Wolverine: Yearning for a Better Game

Claws Out, Balls Missing Marvel's Wolverine is the best Wolverine game ever made. That bar was underground, and Insomniac barely cleared it. This game is fun for about six hours. The combat is bloody, the claws feel good, and there's a primal satisfaction to ripping through rooms full of Trask…

Pokémon Diamond Version (Nintendo DS)

Game Freak had something to prove with Pokémon Diamond. The franchise's first mainline entry on the Nintendo DS needed to justify the hardware jump — dual screens, touch input, Wi-Fi capabilities — while following up the Game Boy Advance era of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Diamond (alongside its…

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (Xbox 360)

A great game buried by Skyrim's shadow — Snowblind Studios delivered visceral hack-and-slash combat, an addictive loot system, a stacked voice cast led by Nolan North and Laura Bailey, and genuine respect for Tolkien's world, held back by inconsistent companion AI and one poorly designed encounter.…

South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360)

A playable season of South Park at its very sharpest — razor-edged satire wrapped in a surprisingly solid Paper Mario-style RPG, only held back by fading combat and limited replay value. One of the best licensed games ever made — and a time capsule from when South Park mocked everything equally.…

Madden NFL 08 (Xbox 360)

The Madden franchise finally hit its stride on Xbox 360 — a silky 60fps, the tactically smart Read and React Weapons system, and one of the deepest Franchise Modes in series history make this a solo football fan's dream, dragged down only by weak booth commentary and overtuned turnover sliders.…

Dead Space (Xbox 360)

When Dead Space launched in October 2008, EA Redwood Shores had something to prove. Electronic Arts wasn't exactly known for original survival horror IP, and the third-person shooter space was already crowded with heavy hitters like Gears of War and Resident Evil 4's lingering influence. Dead Space…

Postal 4: No Regerts (2022) - The "Worst Game of the Year" That I Still Love

POSTAL 4: No Regerts got dragged through the mud by every major outlet on the planet. IGN hit it with a 2/10. GameSpot gave it a 1/10. Metacritic ranked it dead last out of 824 games rated in 2022. The complaints were always the same: technical crashes, unoptimized performance, repetitive mission…

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance Is the Franchise Revival That Actually Earns It

Franchise revivals are a minefield, and most of them blow up in your face. You get a beloved IP dusted off, handed to a studio that clearly doesn't understand why people loved it in the first place, and what comes out the other end is a polished, soulless product that exists purely to extract…

Marvel's Wolverine Is a Terrible Game That Should Have Been a Great One

Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine launched today, and it's a perfect case study in everything that's wrong with modern big-budget game development. The critical score is the studio's lowest in years, sitting at a 77 on Metacritic, while the official PlayStation Store page is flooded with suspiciously…

Donkey Kong Bananza Review

Donkey Kong Bananza — The Switch 2's First Must-Own Game Let me cut straight to it: Donkey Kong Bananza is the real deal.
