Gamescom is delivering tonight and there's plenty to be excited about. Here's what stood out.
Marcus and Dom are back. The Coalition is taking it back to the OG boys — back to where it all started on Emergence Day. This is the Gears we grew up with. Two dudes, a Lancer, and a whole lot of Locust that need killing. If they nail that raw, brutal tone from the first game, this could be exactly what the franchise needed.
Capcom remembered Mega Man exists again, and they're keeping it retro. This is what a proper revival looks like — respect the source material, don't reinvent the wheel, just give us tight platforming and great boss fights. No need to modernize the soul out of it.
The Metro series has always been about atmosphere and survival in a brutal, unforgiving world. No hand-holding, no safe spaces — just you, your gas mask, and the tunnels. 4A Games knows what they're doing with this franchise and it shows. One of the most underrated series in gaming getting another shot.
This one came out of nowhere. HoMM III is one of the greatest strategy games ever made and the fact that it's getting a proper remake is wild. If you never played the original, you missed out on one of the most addictive "one more turn" games of all time. Hoping they keep the magic intact.
There are still studios out there making games for the people who actually play them. No woke bs, no 30-minute corporate training sessions disguised as dialogue. Just solid games built on solid foundations. Tonight was proof that the industry hasn't completely lost the plot — you just have to know where to look.
